Enthusiast Launches SlapMac App That Makes MacBooks “Moan” from Slaps, Claims $5,000 in Five Days
A tech enthusiast has turned a quirky open-source GitHub project into a paid macOS application that plays explicit and humorous sound effects when users slap their MacBook. The app, called SlapMac, quickly gained viral attention on social media, leading its creator to report earnings of $5,000 within five days of launch.
The developer, known online as Tonyino Catapano (or Тонино Катапано), built the user-friendly wrapper around an existing project and added new audio features, including moans triggered by cable connection. The story highlights the rapid monetization potential of niche macOS customizations.
Origin of the Concept: Open-Source Span Project
The core idea did not originate with Catapano. In early March 2026, a GitHub user with the handle taigrr released the open-source project called Span. It uses the built-in motion sensor available in MacBook models with M1 Pro, M2, and newer processors to detect slaps on the laptop body and play corresponding sound effects.
Only compatible MacBooks equipped with these advanced sensors can run the motion detection feature. The project remained a command-line tool until Catapano spotted its potential for a broader audience.
From Instagram Demo to Paid App
On March 16, 2026, Catapano posted an Instagram video demonstrating the Span repository. He received numerous requests from users who lacked the technical skills to compile and run the code themselves. In response, he created a polished graphical “wrapper” application named SlapMac and launched a dedicated website offering free downloads initially.
As videos of “moaning” MacBooks spread across social platforms, Catapano introduced paid tiers. The download price rose from $3 to $5 and currently stands at $7. According to his statements, the app generated approximately $5,000 in just five days.

Expanded Audio Library and New Features
SlapMac now includes eight distinct sound categories:
- Sexual / moaning sounds
- Farting effects
- Bleating / goat sounds
- Impact / slap sounds
The developer also integrated another GitHub project to add creaking sounds when opening the laptop lid. In the latest update, he implemented audio playback when a charging cable is connected — a feature that has drawn additional attention in viral clips.
Catapano has indicated plans to add support for user-uploaded custom audio files in future versions.
Technical Requirements and Compatibility
The motion-sensing slap detection works exclusively on MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models equipped with M1 Pro, M2, or later processors. Older Intel-based MacBooks and base M1 models without the advanced sensor cannot utilize the core slap-to-sound functionality, though some other audio features may still apply.
